TREATING THROUGH EATING
The reality with any disease, illness, condition, or health issue is that WITH EVERY BITE OF FOOD YOU TAKE YOU’RE EITHER TREATING OR FEEDING YOUR DISEASE.
So consider that although you may not CURE the disease, you could CURB its progression. By eating a clean diet you could feel stronger, have more energy, and be healthier.
Your body uses the foods and nutrients you intake to function. Simple right? As a result, the difference in how your body functions and how you feel after eating a Big-Mac vs. a Vegetable Salad isn’t hard to imagine.
It goes deeper than how you feel though. Your body is working hard to process everything going on: metabolizing medications, managing stress, recovering from relapses, and even fighting off a simple common-cold. So although you may not FEEL great, your body is trying to accomplish great things.
For many diseases (Cancer, Auto-Immune Diseases, Diabetes, etc.) the biggest change with the largest impact would be for the individual to adopt a Vegan / Plant-based diet. I wont waste time and words on the science or the research backing this potentially preposterous, life-altering suggestion. However, the fact remains that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, with reduced processed ingredients and animal byproducts is proven to offer incredible benefits to the treatments and recovery of an individual throughout the disease.

I am not saying that every can / should / will go vegan. I also don’t think this lifestyle works for everyone. Everyone’s body is different. Everyone needs to approach their diet with their own unique self-awareness and needs. However, I am saying that the saying “you are what you eat”, is even more applicable to those fighting a chronic illness.

At 27 I hadn’t been diagnosed with MS yet, but I was already looking for a change. I’d been on 3 medications since I was 18. Asthma meds, a Tumor Suppressant, and Allergy Meds. I’d had a 3 major surgeries by the time I was 23, and I was not so interested in adding more daily medications to my regimen as the years went on.
I knew that I wanted to take fewer pharmaceutical drugs, and treat my symptoms on a deeper level. Medical advancements, Pharmaceutical Drugs and Treatments are incredible, they are life savers and life changers for many. But I didn’t want a cocktail of drugs to be how I “survived”.
Once I watched “What The Health”, where it suggests a vegan diet could help support the recovery of the same health issues I’d been trying to beat for years… I knew that was my answer. I could reduce inflammation and improve overall functionality internally & externally WITHOUT MEDICATIONS. The next day, in May 2018, my partner [Anthony] and I decided to convert to a vegan plant-based diet.
The plant-based lifestyle isn’t always simple. Being comfortable with saying “no, thank you” to a cake or pie at a celebration is key. Reading food labels & asking waiters at restaurants to “please double check” gets easier. Being confident in your choice, and your self-assurance is vital.
So far, the change we made in 2017 is beyond worth it. With support of my doctors, I reduced my medication significantly. I made the choice to stand up for myself, my health, my peace of mind, my wellness. We committed to a disruptive, crazy, immense change in our lifestyle. We committed to a future where I am in the drivers seat of my health and wellness mission.
Health & Wellness is a lifestyle. What you eat is a choice. How you feel is the combination of those pieces and the outcome can be incredible, if you commit to it.
